- There are three main parts of a wine key: a foil cutter, a lever, and the actual corkscrew, sometimes called a worm.
- First, use the foil cutter to remove the foil covering the very top of the bottle by piercing just below the lip of the bottle, and turning the bottle in a circular motion to cut all the way around neck.
- Remove and throw away the foil. Then, insert the corkscrew (worm) into the center of the cork and twist clockwise until it’s fully inserted into the cork—this last step is essential, as you don’t want the cork breaking off halfway! To remove the cork, rest the lever on the lip of the bottle, and then pull the handle up to remove the cork from the bottle.
