The Kanikonna plant, also known as Cassia fistula, is a stunning tropical tree native to Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. It is commonly referred to as the Golden Shower Tree due to its striking yellow flowers that bloom in abundant, cascading clusters, resembling golden showers.
Flowers: The most distinctive feature of the Kanikonna tree is its profuse, pendulous clusters of yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers. These flowers bloom in late spring to early summer and cover the tree in vibrant yellow, making it an eye-catching spectacle. The blooms often attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Foliage: The leaves of the Kanikonna are compound and feathery, with numerous small leaflets arranged along the stem, giving the tree a light, airy appearance. The leaves are typically bright green and provide a beautiful contrast to the golden flowers.
Fruit: After blooming, the tree produces long, cylindrical pods that contain black seeds. These pods can reach lengths of up to 30 cm (12 inches) and are typically green at first, turning brown as they mature.
Size and Growth Habit: The Kanikonna tree can grow quite large, typically reaching heights of 30-40 feet (9-12 meters) with a spread of up to 25 feet (7.5 meters) in ideal conditions.
