Calendula is a genus of about 15–20 species of annual and perennial herbaceous plants in the daisy family, Asteraceae that are often known as marigolds. They are native to southwestern Asia, western Europe, Macaronesia, and the Mediterranean.
Sowing Method:
1. Choose a location with well-draining soil and full sun for planting the Calendula flower seeds. Calendula also tolerates partial shade.
2. Prepare the soil by loosening it with a garden fork or tiller, removing any weeds or debris.
3. Sow the Calendula flower seeds directly into the soil, spacing them about 6-12 inches apart. Press the seeds lightly into the soil and cover them with a thin layer of soil.
4. Water the seeds gently to moisten the soil, being careful not to wash the seeds away. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
5. Calendula seeds typically germinate within 7-14 days. Once they have germinated, thin out the seedlings to allow for proper spacing, leaving the strongest seedlings in place.
6. Water the seedlings regularly, especially during dry periods. Calendula does not require heavy fertilization but you can add a balanced fertilizer if needed.
7. Prune the plant to encourage bushier growth and deadhead spent blooms to promote continuous flowering.
