Double lip oil seals feature two lips for better fluid separation or contamination exclusion. Many oil seals are spring loaded to provide constant, a uniform load of the lip on the shaft for the life of the seal. The spring load also provides a constant load on both lips of the double lip seal.

APPLICATION OF NITRILE RUBBER OIL SEAL

USES OF NITRILE RUBBER OIL SEAL
Oil seals are used to protect shafts and bearings from ingress of dirt and foreign matter and egress of oil or grease. An oil seal generally consists of an outer circular metal part and an inner flexible member that does the actual sealing and is bonded to the metal part by chemical adhesive agents. The sealing member is made of rubber, either synthetic or natural as the case may be. The sealing lip of the flexible member is prepared by cutting away the flash that forms at the sealing edge during moulding. A fine sealing edge provides adequate pressure on the shaft to prevent leakage.
INSTALLATION GUIDELINE
Oil seal installation tools are recommended for use when installing rotary shaft seals, to facilitate proper engagement and decreases the likelihood of seal cocking. When using a press fitting tool (preferably pneumatic or hydraulic press), make sure the tool has an OD .01″ (.25 mm) smaller than the size of the bore.
